I dedicate myself to tell my experience at the wheel of our rented Ford brand Galaxy, in our tour of Irish land.

Driving

Before conducting an Anglo-Saxon country, (which as you know they do on the left and right hand drive) are many fears, namely: Do the "pedals" the same distribution and the same
to function? Answer: Yes.
"The marches have the same distribution in Spain? Answer: yes (obviously the change is located on your left, your left hand and insert, for example the first, left and forward).

is not difficult to get used to the novelty, but I recommend some care.
The first is to have a "nice treatment" with the person or persons who will exercise co-pilot during the journey and that passengers in the rear, they have the same "care effect the sebe "or" care of the ditch effect "or" effect give us the mirror. "
is, a few days before the trip should have "meetings" with our prospective co-pilots, which we try to instill confidence in our driving skills, especially if our baggage of accidents is "Zero" (unless it is "Zero" therapy would have "zero" results.) Once
our possible co minded, do not believe that we have it all done ... almost always going acongojao ":" Beware, beware, "uff why little", "I will prune the hedges," thankfully there were no stones in the ditch "" slower, jopelines (to bypass profanity) "on the left, left!" etc, etc.
The second is to learn the next song (Sesame Street type) with all passengers, so you remember it from time to time to reach a crossroads, "right on the left" or "left left" is a fun way for all passengers also have their "responsibility."

Roads In Ireland, there is little freeway (too little). The road is usually "national" (double meaning and no hard shoulder). Although I must say also that there are stretches of "national" real good, almost comparable to a dual carriageway. And I say "almost" because there is a shoulder lane but a very wide (so wide you can run a car for him).
This was one of the things that struck me running through Ireland. When you go through a national "shoulder width" because you realize the rail line between the "shoulder width" is discontinuous. I insist on the "shoulder width" because I guess it is, because if it is not ... For there is no hard shoulder!.
The operation of the "shoulder width" is something like what we are accustomed to call "slow vehicle lane." And I mean "like" because if the vehicle above you "consider" going slower than you, generally, is often away and travels through the "shoulder width" until they pass. Needless to say, if you think that this "shoulder" may be circulating a tractor in a hump or curve.
The other roads, the vast majority are what we call "county" without shoulder (of course) and no paint stripes delimiting asphalt and / or rail. Usually no problem, since the traffic is very low. But ... the eye, if someone comes to the contrary.
I will make two special mentions.
Of all the journeys made by Irish roads, two points struck me particularly dangerous (in the sense of being with another car in front).

The first is Galway . Galway ????.??? Yes. County
probably less movement in Ireland. So it should be.
On the way from North and Leenane Cong were behind a "SUV" (Which cost me "keep up") and trailer (where they took two horses) and we still strange as, miraculously, no other vehicle we passed more than twenty miles, (for he had dao) and how did not dump the trailer with the horses mentioned (at least until it was diverted by another road) after "putting the wheel in the ditch more than half a dozen times.
The second, although the first danger, is south of Dublin ... curiously the most populated area of \u200b\u200bIreland.
After visiting the famous waterfall of Powerscourt Waterfall, and since the Tomtom (faithful navigator) seemed having "lost", we asked the "collector friendly" (from the entrance to the waterfall) the way forward to reach the ruins of Glendalough. We indicated a way (well, road which was paved) through which we (at least I had) two feelings. On the one hand, want to return pa kill the civilian and, on or ORT thank pa side.
me explain.
I remember, those who do not know, we're Asturias. This means that we are used to winding roads, narrow, bumpy, mountain passes, vegetation in the ditches, etc. And never, I repeat, never worse than I had the wonderful "Highway" which runs through the valley Glenmacnass. Come on, passing a bus or climb to the Lagos de Covadonga on a cloudy and rainy.
Three times three, looked at the sky and say thank you (apparently only the face gave me away I put on one occasion, but they were three.) For these parts, as well as by Galway, people "drive like crazy" ... literally. What happens is that contrary to what happens in Galway, here there is "traffic." Awesome.
the other hand felt like to see the citizen, this time pa give a thousand thanks, for sending us the longest route but also the prettiest. Truth was we were exhausted (it was our penultimate day) and the small road (and who by them were) made us "eternal" t
rayecto but the landscape we found, was worth it.
This route was named by Myles as "Mystery Tour", because it really (the Tomtom not "received") was the only time all the way in which we lost (it was for a short time, really.)

This was the highlight on the roads of Ireland. The tour we did for Northern Ireland, was another story. Basically the differences are: better roads, wider (a tad more), better paved and indicated, and double, or triple traffic (we suffered occasional retention).

Honorable Mentions

1 - The passenger / as because despite having browser, its indications were needed reminder. (I can not stand the "voices" of the browser)
And when the browser "got lost" there was always someone with a map in hand, to find your way.

2 - indicators rretera ca. Cute, in many moments, "tight." Come if you go without a browser (which not recommended) and you find a cross ... to know where you go you have to stop ... quietly.

3 - A Dublin. I said that to other roads, with browser "no problem". Ojo to make money, because it was the only place where I got the opposite lane (each direction having at least three lanes) Well, uh, it was night, I was tired (very tired), there were several lanes ... anyway I was wrong.
"Chapeau" for Dubliners who, accustomed to the "blunders" of the "no whites", I spent not a single beep, but waited patiently maneuvered turning. It is appreciated, because remember we're talking about a big city ...

experience rating
Landscapes, abbeys, castles, cliffs, Lagos, sheep ... is mostly what we're going to find out if drive through Ireland, wonderful country that I hope to return (we still have much to learn and do ... (eg. the Gap of Dunloe, Killarney, cycling).

is, traveling by car is recommended one hundred percent. Also enjoyed the luck of good weather ... what more could we ask ...
far my experience at the wheel "my first time" in an Anglo-Saxon country. We arrived safe and sound (the Ford Galaxy and had scratches on the left side, ein?).
A single person, who can serve what you just read, it will be worth the "suckling pig."
If anything I left out, my friends / or travel, it remedied. A Salute
