Estes and Akhenaten STATUE RECOVERED STOLEN DURING THE EGYPTIAN REVOLUTION

archaeological authorities have recovered a statue of the pharaoh Akhenaten, which was stolen from the Egyptian Museum in the looting that took place in the protests against the regime of Hosni Mubarak.

The State Ministry for the Affairs of the Antiquities states that a professor at American University in Cairo gave the statue of Akhenaten (1361-1352 BC) to the department after her nephew found her near a container garbage in Tahrir Square, where he participated one of the demonstrations.

With the recovery of the sculpture and there are four pieces returned to the museum, of which eight antiquities were stolen during the protests, which began Jan. 25 and ended last Friday with the resignation of Mubarak.
